Premier League Trio chasing Haaland as Dortmund speculate on exit
Borussia Dortmund expect Erling Haaland to leave at the end of the season if he does not qualify for the Champions League, it is claimed.
Haaland is one of the most demanded prospects in European football. His scoring exploits with Dortmund have described him as one of the best forwards on the continent.
Dortmund got a gem by signing Haaland from RB Salzburg last January. However, they may not be able to keep it forever.
The Norwegian international has a release clause of €75 million in his contract, which will be valid in 2022. Until then, however, Dortmund can order the price they want.
Ideally, the Bundesliga would like to keep him for another full season. However, there is a growing risk that they will not be able to do so.
According to Don Balon, Dortmund “assumes” that Haaland will leave if he does not finish in the top four this season.
The German club is already in financial difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A non-qualification for the Champions League would only aggravate their problems.
Dortmund are currently sixth in the Bundesliga standings. There is still a long way to go, but if they do not improve this position, it could have negative consequences.
Apart from the financial implications-which could force them to sell key players at a reduced price-it is also likely that several of their most ambitious stars will not want to stay if they are not in the Champions League.
Haaland would fall below this range and could therefore consider his options.
Prem threesome chase Haaland
According to Don Balon, five clubs are interested in the 20-year-old. In addition to League giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, the trio of Premier League Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea want it.
United wanted to sign Haaland before choosing Dortmund. Edinson Cavani improved them beforehand, but they could still be looking for a long-term solution.
City, for their part, want to find a successor to Sergio Aguero, who is out of contract at the end of the season. Haaland is at the top of your wish list.
Chelsea, for their part, are looking to strengthen for new coach Thomas Tuchel. With Timo Werner lost, they could still be in the market for a new striker.
Previous reports claimed that City would be in pole position if they can maintain their current position and win the Premier League.
